Outdoor Club Competition 2023 - Update
We are working on dates and potential venues for our club competitions in 2023 but thought it would be useful to provide an update on plans. As usual there are lots of competing constraints on dates and different, overlapping groups of players.
1. We are planning for UKU Tour Ranking events across the season - provisionally as follows:
25-26 March / 1-2 April - MIXED (2-3 venues)
22-23 April - OPEN & WOMEN’S (2-3 venues)
3-4 June - OPEN & WOMEN’S Tier One - Nottingham Windfarm
Mid June - MIXED (2-3 venues)
15-16 July - MIXED Tier One - YDG (location TBD)
5-6 / 12-13 Aug - OPEN & WOMEN’s (2-3 venues)
Note - dates and venues are not fixed.
We aim to have events distributed around the country as best we can. In particular we want to continue to have some events taking place in the North East and/or North West of England - ideally both (probably Durham and Manchester). We would also like to establish at least one ranking event in Scotland that includes teams from outside Scotland. If you or your club would like to be involved supporting, running or hosting UKU events please contact events@ukultimate.com.
2. Nationals will be around the same time of year as usual, but the exact date is not finalised.
UKU Nationals will be held on one of 19-20, 26-27 August or 2-3 Sept. Discussions are in progress with the University of Nottingham to return to Highfields.
UK qualification to Nationals (The Playoffs) is provisionally planned for 29-30 July (backup date 5-6 August).
In 2023, we will be changing qualification to Nationals as follows:
Merging North and South Regionals into a single National Playoffs event.
Top 3 National League (see below) teams in each division qualify directly to Nationals.
In 2023, we do not expect to run any qualification games/rounds before The Playoffs, but will initially reserve the weekend of 13-14 May for that purpose in case it is needed.
EUCR-West will probably be combined with UKU Nationals again in 2023.
We had planned to separate EUCR-W from UKU Nationals. We had agreed a date at the end of May with IFDA, but the EUF has moved the EUF Elite Invite to that weekend. Going earlier into May doesn’t work for the IFDA, and in our view moving into June or July will not work given the other events that are also already committed in that time.
3. National League
The UKU National League is a round-robin competition for the top 6* teams in all three divisions that will take place April-June - over 2-3 dates.
(*) Team numbers, and the number of teams qualifying directly to Nationals, may be subject to some small adjustment per division as we try to get this back up and running in a format that works well for the invited teams. We will be contacting those teams soon with more details - thanks for your patience. For now we are focussing on putting the other events, dates and locations in place for everyone else.
4. Other Comments
University Men’s & Women’s Outdoor Nationals is on 1-2 April at Riverside, Nottingham.
We aim to run the cancelled 2022 Beach Nationals in Spring (May if we can). There may also then be a Beach Nats in at least single or mixed gender divisions in Sept (TBD).
University Mixed Outdoor Nationals is provisionally 24-25 June at Moor Lane, Birmingham.
Junior Outdoor Nationals is likely to be 24th June, venue TBD.
UKU is hosting the WFDF World Under-24 Ultimate Championships, 1-8 July. We will share more information about this as soon as we can. Please also see this announcement by WFDF.
